Clive Owenย (born 3 October 1964) is an English actor. He first gained recognition in the United Kingdom for playing the lead role in theย ITVย seriesย Chancerย from 1990 to 1991. He received critical acclaim for his work in the filmย Close My Eyes (1991) before earning international attention for his performance as a struggling writer inย Croupier (1998). In 2005, he won aย Golden Globeย and aย BAFTA Awardย . He was nominated for anย Academy Awardย for his performance in the dramaย Closer (2004).
Owen has played leading roles in films such asย Sin Cityย (2005),ย Derailedย (2005),ย Inside Manย (2006),ย Children of Menย (2006), andย The International (2009). In 2012, he earned his firstย Primetime Emmy Awardย nomination forย Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movieย for his role inย Hemingway & Gellhorn. He played Dr. John W. Thackery on theย Cinemaxย medical drama seriesย The Knick, for which he received aย Golden Globe Award for Best Actor โ Television Series Drama nomination. In 2021, Owen starred in the psychological romance-horror miniseriesย Lisey's Story. Also, he portrayed Presidentย Bill Clintonย in the third season ofย American Crime Story. He then had further television roles inย A Murder at the End of the Worldย (2023) andย Monsieur Spade (2024).
