According to Variety, Sony Pictures is officially developing an R-rated animated feature film based on PlayStation's beloved action-RPG Bloodborne, with Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch confirming at CinemaCon that the adaptation will stay faithful to the brutal, gothic horror that made the game a cult phenomenon.
Why This Is a Huge Deal for Fancasting
Bloodborne isn't just a game — it's a densely atmospheric world packed with haunted, morally complex characters who have never had a canonical voice. That's a fancaster's dream. The Hunter, Lady Maria, Father Gascoigne, Gehrman the First Hunter — these are figures with enormous dramatic weight, and an R-rated animated format means the studio isn't softening any of it. We're talking cosmic horror, blood-soaked gothic tragedy, and whispered lore delivered through unforgettable characters. The voice cast for this film could define how a generation of fans hears Yharnam for the rest of their lives.
The animation angle also opens doors that live-action wouldn't. Performers who might not physically match a role can disappear into it completely. That means the conversation about who should voice these characters is genuinely wide open — and myCast fans have already been having it.
What myCast Fans Are Already Saying
The myCast community has been dreaming about this adaptation for a while, and the votes across three separate Bloodborne fan-cast stories paint a fascinating picture of what fans want.
The most hotly contested role is The Hunter, the player character at the center of it all. Over at the Bloodborne story, Cillian Murphy has claimed the top spot with 4 votes — a pick that honestly makes a lot of sense. Murphy's ability to project quiet menace and psychological unraveling (see: Peaky Blinders, Oppenheimer) maps perfectly onto a Hunter slowly losing their grip on sanity. Interestingly, the same story also has Murphy picked for Laurence, which tells you fans just really want him in this world one way or another. Meanwhile, over in the Bloodborne fan cast, Karl Urban is the top pick for The Blood Hunter with 2 votes — a grittier, more action-forward take on the same archetype.
